In a bowl, toss together greens, tomatoes, cheese, basil, and olive oil.
Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the top of the salad, and serve.
Layered Salad
Slice the ingredients into thin slices, and layer the cheese and tomatoes at a slant.
Place arugula or basil leaves around the slanted row.
Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Garnish with a dash of salt and pepper if desired.
Notes
The type of tomatoes you use depends on the type of caprese salad you are making. We have a few recommendations:
If you are making a green salad with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, we recommend using cherry tomatoes. They add a nice look to the flavor and are already perfectly bite-sized.
If you are making a layered caprese salad, we recommend using ripe-vine tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, or heirloom tomatoes. You can really use any tomato, but we recommend those tomatoes.
